Our family have been established wine makers in Chinon, Loire Valley, for over fourteen generations. It all began when our ancestor Mathurin Bottreau bought his first vineyard in 1683. In 1973 Jean-Maurice Raffault (the current winemaker’s father) took over the family estate. He was a true pioneer, a trend setter and a local celebrity. He gave up polyculture and focused his attention on his vineyards. He started off with the 4,5 hectares he had inherited and, buying up some of the of the finest known sites of Chinon, increased the size of his estate to 50 hectares.
