Belondrade y Lurton
In the early 90s Didier Belondrade, a Frenchman, fell in love with Spain and Rueda. In 1994 he released his first wine, Belondrade y Lurton Rueda. The philosophy and vision of Belondrade y Lurton is centered on caring for the natural environment, working the vines sustainably, meticulous sorting of the grapes while handling them with great care, developing its own yeast cultures and aging the wines one year in oak and 6 months in bottle before release. Didier holds a strong belief in the aging potential of Verdejo, a belief that grows stronger with each vintage. This idea is was mirrored in the design of the winery which was designed and built in 2000 by architect Vincent Dufos du Rau. The Belondrade vineyards are made up of 30 hectares divided up into 19 plots that bring different characteristics to the wine, depending on soil types, exposures, rootstocks and clones. They use 100% verdejo, fermented and aged on the lees, each plot is fermented and aged separately and after aging for a year, a selection is made for blending. Truly a unique, pivotal force in the Rueda region.
