Nicola Manferrari was working in his mother’s pharmacy and unexpectedly ended up in wine when his father passed away in 1981. Nicola took the helm of his father’s 5 hectares after finishing harvest the year he died and being “sacked” from his mother’s pharmacy. He conceded that he found his new life with vines much more enjoyable than “shipping pills, enslaved in a white lab coat”. Borgo del Tiglio is known as one of the top producers in the area and Nicola makes some of the most balanced and structured wines in the region. Wines that can age for years and years. They produce mainly white wines and strive to maintain balance and complexity in the wines at every step of the process from harvesting and selecting the grapes by hand to choosing the final blend before bottling. Nicola chooses grapes from various different vineyard sites and blends them together in a very strategic way to maximize the desired characteristics from each plot.
