At the end of the 1800’s Giuseppe Benanti began the production of wines on one of his father’s old farms, on the slopes of Mount Etna. In 1988 – Grandson Giuseppe Benanti revived the family’s vineyards beginning with a selective and extensive study of the Etnean soils. In a five year study, he also investigated particular clones of indigenous vines and new oenological techniques to reproduce ancient fragrances using the most modern practices of vinification. Today the winery is run by Giuseppe and his sons, Antonio and Salvino. Together they continue the family’s tradition of cultivating focused, structured wines while practicing absolute respect for the environment and biologic systems. They focus on indigenous varietals of the region, Carricante, Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio, Nero d’Avola and Minnella.
